Competition
Competition is one of the 10 strands of the PE and Sport for Young People Strategy.
Launched in September 2005, the National Competition Framework for young people sets out the following vision:
- A world-class system of competitive sport for young people
- Transformation of the content, structure and presentation of competitive opportunities for young people of school age
- A heightened profile for school sport and, specifically, competitive opportunities
The overarching aims of the programme are to:
- Increase quality of competition
- Increase quantity of competition
- Increase the number of young people engaged in competition
- Step change in competitive sport
- National system of sport delivered locally
- Genuine 2012 legacy
This will be achieved by:
- Modernising competition structures
- Eliminating duplication and over competition
- Broadening the range of opportunities at the base
- Improving and creating coherence from local to regional to National level
- Clearing and un-cluttering pathways
- Clarifying the relationships and responsibilities of key partners such as National Governing Bodies of Sport and School Sport Associations
- Providing a competitive environment and opportunity for ALL young people (‘participation competition’)
- Supporting sport through attracting, supporting, retaining and passing on talent (‘performance competition’)
The role of the Competition Managers is to manage and co-ordinate (in partnership) the planning and implementation of a programme of inter-school competition within the 10 School Sport Partnerships (SSPs) across Leicester-Shire & Rutland, using the national competition framework as the basis.
The programme will be delivered using the National School Competition Framework as the basis:
