Hewitt Cup 2010 - Round 2 – 25.5.2010

Before the event started, Rachael Woolley (56 races and counting!) presented Jasmine Nicholls (Countesthorpe College) with a special trophy to commemorate 50 appearances in 2km. race walks organized by the Leicestershire Primary Schools Athletics Association in conjunction with Leicester Walking Club. Once the race was on, it was Woolley who showed she is coming back to the sort of form she was in several years ago.  Emma Achurch (Leysland High School) nearly caught Nicholls on the line in an exciting finish.

Maks Orzal (Leicester Grammar) made it 2 wins out of 2 in the current Hewitt Cup series. Joe Smith and Blaby Stokes team-mate, Max Flanagan, took the other podium places.

With one race to go in the series the boy’s league will go down to the wire. A handful of points separate the Top 5 with Benjamin Allen (Blaby Stokes) leading Flanagan by a solitary point and Josh Bramley close behind. The girl’s league has Emma Achurch in a comfortable lead but 5 girls are in contention for the silver and bronze awards.
