Sports Coaching in Schools
We have a network of well qualified sports coaches working with our schools to support curriculum activities and deliver out of school sporting opportunities. Our sports coaches support leadership and volunteering in schools, and help develop competitive opportunities and nurture talent.
This year, we have employed the following sports coaches through the government funded School Sports Coaching Programme, who will be visiting many of our schools throughout the year and delivering sporting opportunities with our pupils:
Clive Ellames: Badminton
I have been a coach for nearly thirty years and have been privileged to have worked with five National Champions, one of whom was also a European Champion. Prior to my professional involvement I was the Badminton Association of England’s Regional Coach, West Midlands and served as an England Junior Squad Coach for 5 years. I am currently still coaching players at county level with a couple of players on the National Tournament circuit and some promising local juniors. I have also been heavily involved with our Coach education & training programmes up to the top level for the last 20 years.
I currently run my own Training Company and am quite heavily involved in running both curriculum sessions and after school clubs as well as Talent Development Cells at 3 Colleges for the County Talent Development Programme in Leicestershire.
I have been involved in Badminton for many years and in a full time employed capacity for the last 15 years, starting as the Badminton Association of England’s Coaching Manager before becoming the Director of Development. Last year, after restructuring of the Association, I took the post of Regional Development Manager, which I left in April 2005 to concentrate on my own business interests.
Before being involved with sport on a full time basis, I worked in sales and marketing for many years in a variety of commercial and industrial operations, having worked as a consultant with such companies as British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Saudi Airlines, plus big U.K. conglomerates such as Gallaher Ltd and Cavenham Foods to name a few.
I am a Fellow of the Institute of Sales & Marketing Management, a member of the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management and served on the Executive Board of the National Association of Sports Development.
