It is time to deliver a new type of club for children in primary schools: a club that starts with children and is genuinely owned by them.
The clubs take the principles from a range of predominantly Olympic and Paralympic sports listed below and place them in a fun, vibrant and exciting activity club. These clubs will capture the essence of the sport without directly delivering sport specific content. This is to encourage the less active years 3 & 4 pupils to take part. The clubs are grouped into three themes (skills linked to the sports listed):
- Adventure: canoeing, orienteering, rowing, sailing, cycling and mountaineering.
- Creative: Gymnastics, swimming, dance, cheerleading, skipping, diving and trampolining
- Target: Archery, fencing, bowls, boccia, goalball and golf.
Change 4 Life primary school clubs will be operating in 12 schools in Learning South Leicestershire in 2012. Each school will receive a resource bag, training and support from a Healthy Lifestyle Coach. Coaches will deliver 2 hours a week of physical activity for the targeted children, for 30 weeks.
